Scott bishop
Scott Bishop, BSc, MASc, PhD (candidate), is co-founder and Treasurer of Leap Biosystems, specializing in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, and Advanced Materials.
Scott is currently completing a PhD in Aerospace Engineering at Carleton University, his thesis research is in Structural Health Monitoring of aerospace structures using ultrasonic waves. Scott completed a BSc in Kinesiology and MASc in Mechanical Engineering at Dalhousie University focusing on the design of devices for human-machine interaction.
Scott has been an instructor at Saint Mary’s University teaching Probability and Statistics for Engineers, and has seven years of industry experience in advanced materials manufacturing. His research interests include: advanced materials, machine design, signal processing, and non-destructive testing using ultrasonic waves.
Scott has a passion for high latitude expeditions highlighted by a 4-month sailing expedition through the Northwest Passage, a 6-week filming expedition to Antarctica, and two single-handed sailing adventures across the North Atlantic Ocean. He is a certified SCUBA Rescue diver, Level 1 firefighter, and is currently completing his private pilots license.
Scott was one of 72 finalists in the 2016-2017 Canadian Space Agency Astronaut Recruitment Campaign, a process that started with 3772 applicants for 2 astronaut positions that were filled during the summer of 2017.
